Digital Elementary
Second Step Program
Over the last two years I’ve been leading the design production team for the new Second Step Digital Elementary Program. Using rapid iteration on an interdisciplinary team (a group of researchers, editors, instructional designers..) we developed 120 teacher-led web-player lessons and their supporting materials. Working with my design manager and project owner I developed style direction, coordinated 3 designers (Sal Miramontes, Zahrah Qadir and Adnan Juposovic 🙌🏼), managed illustrator assignments (Chad Otis, Maria Munoz, and Rico Desanctis 🙏🏼), worked on video development, helped in user observations and production workflow from beginning to end.
Check out some of the sample lessons:
Each lesson includes a student-facing web-player presentation along with a teacher script to guide (PDFs) them along the slides.
Brain Builders
The Brain Builders are activities done at the beginning of most lessons to get kids’ minds and bodies ready to pay attention and participate. They prompt a chunk of time for students to play games and get their brains ready for the rest of the lesson.
This logo was so much fun to make. It went through several rounds before landing on this puzzle-piece concept with custom typography.
Supplemental Materials
To add support to the classroom environment and school spirit, we created posters that reiterate different skills and concepts from the lessons.
We also developed a family communications letter to keep caretakers up to date with tips and info on using SEL skills at home.
I led the process to develop, iterate, and create these docs.
